Florida Neighborhood: Lake Alfred

Population: 5,565
Crime Rate per 1,000 Residents: 6.5
Cost Of Living Index: 86
Average Home Price: $188,000

If safety is your top priority while searching for your own personal Florida neighborhood, then you should consider this beautiful place. It boasts one of the lowest crime rates on our list, with a minuscule 6.5 crimes reported per 1,000 residents.

But Lake Alfred also happens to be very affordable. The cost of living is around 14% lower than the rest of the state, making it one of the most budget-friendly and safest places to live. Housing costs are also fairly reasonable, that is, if you can find an available home.

There’s a high demand to enter this small and charming community. So we recommend you begin looking now if you wish to eventually move here. And if you do decide to relocate permanently, you’ll enjoy a cozy and quiet city located on a group of lakes.

All in all, this is genuinely an authentic small town because you won’t find any big chain stores around here. The bigger stores are available near Winter Haven, a 10-minute drive away.

If you need more than that, you can also get to Orlando or Tampa in under an hour in either direction.

So pack your bags, don’t forget your swimsuit, and if you enjoyed our list of Florida neighborhoods, be sure to leave us a comment to let us know which of them was your favorite.

  1. Would it be possible to have some information on the 6 places to retire in Florida to me. I’m 70 years young and thinking of moving to Florida permanently to be with My Daughter and Grandchildren who moved there a year ago and I haven’t been to visit them yet. But I am Retired. Thanks

  2. What kind of housing for seniors in Lake Wales and Lake Alfred? I’m interested in small houses and condos. Please mail inf. 2118 Freeland Road, Freeland, MD 21053.
    Thank you

  3. Your stats and comments don’t jive. The crime rate for Gainesville is about 1:25. That doesn’t sound safe at all! You say Edgewater is a bigger city (pop. 21,000+)than the others in the list. Gainesville has a population over 150,000, many times larger than Edgewater!? I can’t read anymore of this
