Florida Neighborhood: Lake Wales

Population: 15,735
Crime Rate per 1,000 Residents: 24.4
Cost Of Living Index: 86
Average Home Price: $165,000

Lake Wales benefits from being a quiet, affordable suburb with easy access to its more extensive and expensive neighboring cities. It made it on our list of places to live in the Sunshine State mainly due to its meager costs across the board.

The cost of living in this Florida neighborhood is 14% lower than average, while rent is about $750 per month. Of course, the area is also relatively safe, coming in a bit below average in its crime rate compared to the rest of the state.

So we believe Lake Wales is one of the most budget-friendly places to live in the state, and it also provides a safe community. Besides this, it’s known for its relaxed lifestyle, with a large lake as its centerpiece.

And there are even plenty of things to do, from the numerous parks surrounding the lake to the quaint historic district on East Stuart Avenue that’s filled with many eateries and boutiques. But don’t worry about missing out.

Modern stores like Walmart and Winn-Dixie are also near the edge of town.

  1. Would it be possible to have some information on the 6 places to retire in Florida to me. I’m 70 years young and thinking of moving to Florida permanently to be with My Daughter and Grandchildren who moved there a year ago and I haven’t been to visit them yet. But I am Retired. Thanks

  2. What kind of housing for seniors in Lake Wales and Lake Alfred? I’m interested in small houses and condos. Please mail inf. 2118 Freeland Road, Freeland, MD 21053.
    Thank you

  3. Your stats and comments don’t jive. The crime rate for Gainesville is about 1:25. That doesn’t sound safe at all! You say Edgewater is a bigger city (pop. 21,000+)than the others in the list. Gainesville has a population over 150,000, many times larger than Edgewater!? I can’t read anymore of this
