Florida Neighborhood: Edgewater

Population: 21,892
Crime Rate per 1,000 Residents: 16.7
Cost Of Living Index: 92
Average Home Price: $207,000

This is a bigger city compared to everything else on our list, but it still has that small town, seaside community feel about it. It’s located on the eastern coast of this state, a mere 30-minute drive from Daytona Beach and an hour away from Orlando.

Its biggest attraction is the laid-back beach life. But, of course, there’s a beautiful daily life here, too. Edgewater also has one of the lowest living costs in Florida. You’ll easily find amenities like Chick-fil-A and Winn-Dixie.

And for retirees looking to still work part-time, there are many growing job opportunities too. The city also has one of the lowest crime rates on this list, making it an affordable yet safe place for everyone, especially retirees.

  1. Would it be possible to have some information on the 6 places to retire in Florida to me. I’m 70 years young and thinking of moving to Florida permanently to be with My Daughter and Grandchildren who moved there a year ago and I haven’t been to visit them yet. But I am Retired. Thanks

  2. What kind of housing for seniors in Lake Wales and Lake Alfred? I’m interested in small houses and condos. Please mail inf. 2118 Freeland Road, Freeland, MD 21053.
    Thank you

  3. Your stats and comments don’t jive. The crime rate for Gainesville is about 1:25. That doesn’t sound safe at all! You say Edgewater is a bigger city (pop. 21,000+)than the others in the list. Gainesville has a population over 150,000, many times larger than Edgewater!? I can’t read anymore of this
