16. Sometimes the Locked Glass Cases Contain the Cheapest Electronics
This tip is perfect for around the holiday season, especially if you’re looking for cheap electronics. Take a peek inside those glass cases as Walmart displays all their clearances there.
It’s the fastest way to catch the best deals. Why? Because a lot of brands push newer products around that time, meaning that all the old ones have to go on sale, making it the perfect opportunity to avoid paying full price!
17. Scour the Refurbished Section Online Before Purchasing Electronics
Unsatisfied with the prices in the clearance section? Perhaps you need something quickly and can’t wait for the holiday season- understandable! Then what you should try out next is checking out the refurbished electronics section.
These items work perfectly fine and they’d been tested prior to being put on display, so you can trust that you’re still getting a high-quality item for a fraction of the original price. They’re also fixed by manufacturers, so you know all the bits and pieces are exactly where they belong!
A lot of people think that this is not worth it at all, but the truth is these items only had minor issues, to begin with, and now they’re gone! Good as new!
18. The Search Bar Can Reveal Hidden Clearance Deals on the Website
We all have to admit, Walmart’s website does need some sprucing up. It’s not as user friendly and as intuitive as we’d like, so looking for specific deals might be more difficult than it’s worth for some users.
Are you looking for clearance items only? You’ll be hardpressed to find a specific tab, but you can just search for ‘clearance’ in the search box and, boom! Done! Double-check your shopping list with the items listed on the page and see if you can save more money by snagging one of those!
19. Generic Prescriptions Cost Less Than $5
Prescription medication doesn’t come cheap in the U.S. You could spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars per year if you buy the brands that your doctors have prescribed.
Walmart’s $4 generic program is here to rescue you and your wallet! 30-day supplies cost as little as $4 while 90-day supplies cost $10. So if you’re looking for medication for cholesterol, diabetes, digestion, mental health, family planning, thyroid, pain management, heart health, blood pressure, respiratory health, or vitamins and nutrition, check Walmart’s selection out first.
20. Holiday Items Are Insanely Cheap After the Holiday
Here’s a tip for those of you who like to prepare ahead of time! Buy holiday items after the holidays to save hundreds of dollars. These items, such as pumpkin carving kits and wreaths, get heavily discounted after the holidays, so now’s your chance to pick up stuff for next year and only paying a fraction of the price.
Want a bonus tip? When it comes to seasonal items, you should always try to buy them out of season. Swimwear and bikinis are super cheap once the summer ends, and you’ll be set for your next summer getaway months in advance. The same goes for winter coats!
21. Go Grocery Shopping in the Morning
When is the best time to go shopping at Walmart? Experts at Go Banking Rates have done their due diligence and found out that… drumroll please, it’s best to shop in the early hours of the morning.
8:00 AM is by far the best time because that’s when meat from the previous day goes on sale. You can plan your breakfast, lunch, and dinner super early on and take advantage of such sales without going for lower quality products. The grocery department is full of such offers.
22. Those Clearance Stickers Sometimes Cover up Cheaper Prices
Obviously, this isn’t something Walmart would admit to doing, but plenty of faithful customers have claimed that this is is a legitimate concern. Apparently, they have a habit of sticking pricier tags over significantly cheaper ones.
Now, without scraping them away you wouldn’t know, but some customers have spotted misaligned stickers, and this is how it all came to light. Obviously, only the people that work there would know the truth. It’s just something to keep in mind when you’re checking out the clearance section in the future.
23. Walmart Has Some of the Cheapest Party Supplies Available
It’s true that you can get tons of cheap, reliable party supplies from the dollar store, but sometimes it’s not worth it if you have to make two shopping trips instead of one. If you’re already at Walmart buying all the necessary food for a party or get together, check out the party supply aisle too!
You’ll find virtually anything you need for super low prices, like $1 napkins and $2 banners. Whether you’re planning a surprise birthday party, a summer BBQ, or a graduation party, you can get everything you need and more at Walmart.
If, however, you’re going to make two separate trips anyway, such as on different days, it might still be a good idea to check out Dollar Tree or Dollar General for party supplies instead.
24. Head to Sample Displays for the Best Coupons—and Freebies
If you haven’t had the chance to check out free coupon sites, like the ones we mentioned earlier, then make sure to pay the sample displays a visit. You’ll not only get freebies, but you can also ask about coupons.
More often than not, these will put Walmart’s coupons to shame since they’re coming directly from the vendor. These aren’t as heavily advertised, so we thought we’d remind you to always do this in order to save extra on your next shopping trip.
25. Check the Endcaps for Hidden Clearance Items
Sure, the clearance section is the most obvious place to find super cheap items. But let’s be honest, it doesn’t always hold the best selection of items. Depending on the store, it might look very disorganized too.
If nothing there tickles your fancy, check out endcaps for even more great deals. A lot of shoppers are so busy going from aisle to aisle that they forget about endcaps entirely. Here’s your friendly reminder that you might find hidden gems there!
26. You Can Find Clothing Basics for Under $5
Need clothing basics? Are you on the hunt for cheap onesies, tees and tank tops? At Walmart, both online and in brick-and-mortar stores, you can find them for less than $5. You absolutely do not need to pay any more for these essential items!
As we mentioned earlier, check out the clothing section’s seasonal clearance too and get ready for next year with just a few bucks instead of the usual, inflated prices.
27. Skip the Produce…
It seems that one area where Walmart could use some work is the produce section. In a pinch, some of their products will work, of course, but don’t expect the best prices. And, above all, don’t expect variety.
We recommend checking out Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s for far better deals and, let’s face it, yummier-looking food! Don’t believe us? Take it from Consumer Reports, who surveyed shoppers. The result proved that a lot of Americans aren’t thrilled with Walmart’s produce section, so you’re better off skipping it.
28. And Skip the Furniture, Too
If you need to decorate your home with all-new furniture, don’t stop at Walmart. Their prices may be low, but that’s mainly because of cheap manufacturing and even cheaper materials. Your new cabinet might look cute, but we promise it won’t last.
There’s a catch, though. For college students, it makes sense to buy cheaper furniture that isn’t built to really last. Don’t spend hundreds of dollars in order to decorate your child or grandchild’s dorm!
Walmart’s furniture is affordable but temporary, so keep that in mind.
29. When You Work at Walmart for 15 Years, You Get a Lifetime Discount
Now, this might not affect regular shoppers at all, but we thought it would be a cute little fact to share. Did you know that employees who worked at the company for 15 to 20 years get a 10% lifetime discount? That sounds neat, and we can’t imagine what their receipts look like at the end of a shopping spree, especially if you add up all the other neat tricks we’ve listed here today!
Not only that but Walmart also hands out frequent bonuses as a reward for high sales. In 2018, for example, they handed out $800 million in bonuses!
We hoped our list will help make your shopping experience at Walmart smoother and so, so much cheaper! Let us know how it goes in the comment down below. Do you prefer Walmart over other retailers? Share your thoughts with us, we’d love to hear from you!

Thank you for your suggestions. I have been a weekly shopper at the Walmart
in Saint Charles, IL 60174 for some years now. I get groceries on a weekly basis,
and other items as needed. Your advice on items whose prices end in 7, 5, 1
and 0 was something I intend to investigate. Downloading the Walmart app
is another area I intend to investigate. That message was very helpful, thank.
I love shopping at Walmart.
