8. Bridgeport, Connecticut
Bridgeport’s advantageous geographic position, located around an excellent harbor on the Long Island Sound, inspired the early settlers to shift from agrarian to manufacturing and commercial pursuits. Also known as Park City, Bridgeport has green spaces in almost every neighborhood and many beaches and seaside walks.
Once the railroad opened in 1840, the city turned from a whaling center into an industrial hub. Since then, the place has been evolving and is now one of the US towns where people tend to live for about 81.8 years. In fact, Connecticut as a whole is considered one of the healthiest states in the US.
