5. Beaches, Water, and Natural Beauty Everywhere
Florida’s 1,300 miles of coastline make it difficult to live far from water.
From the Gulf Coast’s calm turquoise shores to the Atlantic’s rolling waves, access to beaches is one of the state’s defining features. Seniors enjoy early morning walks along Siesta Key, fishing in the Keys, or simply sitting by the water watching the sunset.
Even inland areas offer lakes, rivers, and springs. Nature preserves, state parks, and boardwalk trails provide accessible outdoor experiences.
There’s something psychologically restorative about living near water. Many retirees describe it as calming, grounding, and uplifting—even if they’re not swimming daily.
