3. Atmore, AL
The third-worst place to work in the U.S. is occupied by Alabama. Surprising huh? Even though the state is mostly mentioned as the best place to live for retirees, it isn’t a great spot for those who plan on working after retirement.
With an unemployment rate of 6.50% and a virtually static job growth rate of 0.04%, Alabama might not be the place to relocate. The rise in the car industry has put it on a little upswing, but thus far, that progress has also had drawbacks.
4. Louisiana
With one of the lowest recent job growth rates (0.32%) and one of the worst unemployment rates (7.00%) on our list, Louisiana joins a long list of Southern states that have struggled economically for most of the previous fifty years. So, dear retirees if you are looking for a job in retirement we recommend avoiding the entire Louisiana state which is definitely one of the worst places to work and live in 2023.
