Jersey City, New Jersey

Located right across the Hudson River from Manhattan, Jersey City is probably the next best thing for those retirees who simply can’t afford to live in Manhattan. Even so, rent in this city is still very high, as it costs more than $2,900 a month, and the overall cost of living index doesn’t seem any better. Besides, the livability score is somewhere around 69 out of 100.

Seattle, Washington

Seattle is the motherland of some of the biggest companies, like Starbucks and Amazon, which means that the city is really sought after for its high-paying job opportunities. Well, high-paying job opportunities equal a steady financial situation, and that’s why if you’re only living on your Social Security, this is the kind of city that you might want to avoid.

You might be surprised to find out that rent isn’t exactly the highest on this list, but it still consumes all of the average Social Security check. Overall, the city is expensive, but the livability score is only 65 out of 100.
