5 Ways to Help Your Community As a Financial Activist

Boycott Problematic Brands

Does boycotting a brand really affect its bottom line? Well, according to a 2017 research by the Insitute for Policy Research at Northwestern University, they don’t actually lead to loss of revenue. The negative media attention may be far more important. Many companies chose to change their policies despite not losing any money just so they can regain public trust.
If you chose to go this route, though, there are two things you need to keep in mind. First is that you shouldn’t expect immediate action. A few social media posts might make you feel better and more trustful in the moment, but what you really need to look for is long-term changes.
Secondly, keep in mind that different brands may exist under the same parent company. If one is problematic to you then research their parent company before switching to another product. This may be harder than you think since more and more huge corporations are buying their competitors while keeping the same ‘face of the company’ so they may seem local, smaller.
You need to be smart about the changes you make to your shopping list or consumer habits!
