Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is a city with a strong personality, as it boasts a wide and thriving cultural scene, an eclectic nightlife, and a reputation as a budget-friendly city compared to any other priced West Coast choice. Even so, it scored a cost of living index of 107.4, which is not really a bargain, and a livability score of 59, which is a factor worth weighing in when it comes to finding your next home.

Even if the city seems to come with a package full of challenges, its unique blend of Midwestern charm and urban vibe makes it a city worth visiting, at least. The average livability score of this city is 59 out of 100.

Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu is probably the best place you could ever retire to, no doubt. It has everything, from pristine beaches to luxurious tropical landscapes and a slower pace of life. Even if living here is nothing but easy, the COST OF IT scored pretty high at 168.9, which is, let’s be fair, way too hefty for most pockets.

Also, the livability score of 69 isn’t ideal, but it’s worth noting that there are all these benefits to living in a place where the air is filled with the scent of plumeria, the sea is warm 24/7, and the sunsets are nothing short of a showstopper. If you’re really willing to pay that price, Honolulu will offer you an unparalleled retirement that you will never forget.
