Florida Neighborhood: Gainesville

Population: 134,661
Crime Rate per 1,000 residents: 39.64
Cost Of Living Index: 89.9
Average Home Price: $274.8K

If you’re looking for the safest location to retire in the Sunshine State, then Gainesville is your best bet. It’s not a beach town, so it’s safe around hurricane season, and it’s 75 miles from the coast in the north-central area.

In this relatively small north-central Florida neighborhood, the adult population enjoys a hassle-free timetable with a gorgeous atmosphere. It has many parks, recreation areas, and pedestrian-friendly trails retirees will love.

And for those looking to continue their education, The University of Florida has many courses for the aging population and benefits as well. The Institute for Learning in Retirement, located at Oak Hammock, even allows retirees to instruct students as professors.

As far as healthcare goes, two big hospitals in Gainesville offer complete care to individuals. And this town also has great public transportation, plenty of fine-dining options, and many shopping centers.

Your stats and comments don’t jive. The crime rate for Gainesville is about 1:25. That doesn’t sound safe at all! You say Edgewater is a bigger city (pop. 21,000+)than the others in the list. Gainesville has a population over 150,000, many times larger than Edgewater!? I can’t read anymore of this

How about availability of rental properties for about 6-8 weeks?
