4. Aurora, Colorado
If you are into outdoor activities and mountains and you want to retire in a natural paradise, don’t look back and move to Aurora. This place is basically a very big suburb of east Denver and has a population of 325,078. This makes Aurora the third-largest city in Colorado.
If you like chilly winters and skiing, you’ve found the right place. But be aware, because Aurora is not for the weak. The city is located at a higher altitude than Denver, and that means the winters are cold and blizzard occurrences are rather normal. Also, in the summer, there is a high chance of thunderstorms and high temperatures.
But despite the moody weather, this city has many advantages, such as affordable housing and health care. Aurora is close to Denver, and that means you have access to the hospitals in the big city. But this doesn’t mean that Aurora doesn’t have hospitals. Aurora South Medical Center and the recently completed Philip Anschutz Medical Complex, including University Hospital and Children’s Hospital, are located in the northern portion of town.
If you want to have an active lifestyle, you should know that the Aurora Center for Active Adults features a low-cost day excursion program for retirees as well as an inexpensive fitness club for seniors.
Now, we already said that Aurora has affordable housing, but what does that mean? Well, housing payments for retirees are $1,623 per month with a mortgage, $904 per month for renters, and $440 per month with a paid-off residence. That sounds good to us; what about you?
