Maine

When it comes to being prepared for an emergency, there is no other state more prepared than Maine, and as an additional brownie point, they are also the second-best when it comes to road safety! Miane is the second-most safe state on our list, and this New England location has a population of around 1.3 million people.

Some may be quick to not believe that it is indeed Maine that came in second, given the fact that they rank number 35 when it comes to income in the US, but it is indeed true. The median income per household is also around $56,000, so if you do not want to stretch your retirement income, this may be the best choice for you while also staying safe.

The Pine Tree State joins New Hampshire as the number one state for the lowest crime rate in all of America, with 1.3 per 1,000 people! Living here, you will not hear too often about instances where someone was mugged or assaulted, with murder also being a very low-recorded crime here. More often than not, the crimes reported are related to personal property.

With a very low natural disaster risk, which just includes the occasional flood or storm, and one of the lowest terrorism risks in the country, you can rest assured that Maine is one of the safest states you could ever wish to move to!
