Volunteer

If you thought that only young college types could join the Peace Corps and volunteer overseas, you’d be wrong! The Peace Corps is for anyone who wants to help out, and if you have the flexibility to leave your home for a bit, it could be just the thing you’re looking for.

Of course, if you’re not ready to commit to something like that, a shorter-term volunteer program might be more suitable for you. Along the way, we’re certain you’ll meet a lot of like-minded people.

As we said, if you’re not able to go abroad at this current point in your life, or if you want to use your volunteering time to make new friends closer to where you live, then there are still lots of options open for you.

Homes for the elderly and hospices constantly need people to volunteer as companions. Schools often need people to help children read. And you can also volunteer in places that support your interests.

Local historical attractions, state parks, and national parks are often looking for volunteers to help their organizations run more smoothly. The options are endless. This is a perfect way to make new friends while also helping your community!
