COLA Increase in 2026: How to Calculate Your Social Security

To estimate your new Social Security benefit amount for 2026, you can follow a straightforward calculation. There are two primary methods to get an approximation of your new monthly payment.

Here is the first, more precise method: Start with your current Social Security check amount and add back your monthly Medicare Part B premium if it’s deducted from your payment.

The standard monthly Part B premium in 2025 was $185.00. For 2026, this standard premium will increase to $202.90. Keep in mind that higher-income beneficiaries—individuals earning over specified thresholds—pay more.

Once you have your gross benefit amount (your check plus the Medicare premium), apply the 2.8% COLA for 2026.

From that new total, subtract the new 2026 Medicare Part B premium of $202.90 (or your specific income-adjusted amount) and any taxes you have withheld. This will give you a close estimate of your new monthly check.

For a quicker, rough calculation, you can use the second method: simply multiply your current monthly benefit amount by 1.028. This will give you a general idea of your increased payment before deductions.
