2. Know That Finding the Perfect Side Job in Retirement Can Be Hard

According to a study conducted by the Government Accountability Office, there are several barriers that seniors may face when searching for a job.

Younger Bosses

It’s human nature to want to surround yourself with people who are like you. However, as a senior, your chances of finding a work environment where most colleagues are 50 or older are rather slim.

But in order to keep working, you may need to feel at ease rubbing elbows with people from different generations. You also should put in a bit of effort to make them comfortable with you.

Salary Expectations That Are Too High

You’ve been in the workforce for a long time, and you’ve earned professional experience. So it only seems fair to ask for a certain salary. But, you may need to compromise on your salary expectations as your skills may not be as up-to-date as they once were. As a result, your salary may be lower than it was previously.

As a piece of advice, perhaps you can ask for another kind of compensation or get more flexibility.

Expensive Health Benefits

As we age, health premiums get more and more expensive. As a result, companies can be reluctant to bear the burden of those costs. However, you may want to know that bigger companies are less impacted by these costs than smaller firms. As a result, if you apply for a side job at a large corporation, chances are they will cover your health insurance premium.

Out-of-Date Skills

Nowadays, culture and technology are changing faster than ever. Whether it’s applying for a job via email, the web, or even a tweet, or actually being able to use computer programs you may need for your desired side job, changes in technology can be completely overwhelming.

It can be difficult to keep pace with digital transformation, but you must. The good news is that if you can adapt to these changes, you’re guaranteed to maintain your brain in top working order. Discovering and learning new methods of doing things is definitely the best way to keep your brain healthy and young.
