7. Oklahoma City

The biggest city in Oklahoma charges residents little in living costs. Household expenses are particularly affordable in this southern city, coming in at 28.1% below average for seniors.

For instance, the medical house value across all ages is $131,700, significantly lower than the nation’s median of $229,000. And a private room in a nursing facility costs on average $66,248 a year, compared with the national average of $100,375 a year.

Cowboys may feel particularly at home in Oklahoma City, as it boasts one of the largest livestock markets across the globe. However, given the area’s downtown revitalization efforts over the past few years, everyone can find something to enjoy.

And let us not forget the humidity. Nor the poverty of Mississippi and Louisiana. True, we are not college-bound, so the abysmal education system need not concern us. Every state has something to offer, including all the southern states, but for overall comfort and recreation I prefer the West, and for coziness and social interaction just stay in New England.

From the two comments below, it looks as though you have posted this retirement story before.

I lived in Augusta 33 yrs. We didn’t call it disgusta for naught. It’s hotter than sin in the summer. And gets pretty cold in the winter. Not at all temperate weather.
