4. Alabama

Did you know that Alabama is also one of the unhealthiest US states? When experts studied the lifestyle habits of people living in this pretty state, they gave it a score of 85.69 out of 100, based on several criteria we’ll talk about soon.

What’s interesting is that Alabama ranked fourth worst in 2 important categories: lifestyle habits and overall health status, as well as disease prevalence and mortality rate.

Experts concluded that one of the worst issues residents confront is not getting enough exercise. More than 30% of Alabama adults stated that they’re obese, and 30.6% of them said that they didn’t move their bodies within a month, and that’s a huge problem for the state and also for the country.

If you thought that these are the only metrics that make Alabama one of the unhealthiest US states, you’re wrong, because there’s more to the story. Residents of Alabama have the 3rd lowest life expectancy in the country, and that’s surely not something encouraging for a senior over the age of 65.

The study also concluded that 63.63 Alabamans lose their lives due to stroke per 100,000 state residents, while 55.35 pass away due to Alzheimer’s disease per 100,000 citizens (both results meaning the second highest amounts in the US).

Ok this was a no brainer! You choose the poorest states in the country! It takes money to stay healthy and to have enough insurance to go to doctors when you need to or to go for preventative health care. These states also do not have the best medical care available in the rest of the country. Doctors don’t flock to these states because they can’t make a lot of money practicing there. So why rub it in????? Because that is what an article like this is doing. Some people are too poor to “relocate”.

I lived in CA for 30+ years. It’s crazy expensive and the cost of living is out of control! I live on Social Security and found it very challenging to keep my head above water. Like so many others, I ditched California, a state I loved for so long, and moved to Texas. I love it here! Better health care, more affordable everything, seasonal changes and truly the most hospitable people i ever met. We’ve been here almost 3 years. Was able to buy a little house with a little yard and most importantly, pay my bills. My mortgage is less than what I could get a small 1 bedroom apartment for in San Diego. Just saying…
