How much can you contribute?

Starting July 4, parents, guardians, grandparents, and others will be able to contribute up to $5,000 a year in after-tax dollars, continuing until the year before the child turns 18. That makes the account a natural place for grandparents to direct birthday and holiday gifts that compound over many years.
