With violent crimes increasing by 13%, the residents in Tennessee experience 673 violent crimes per 100,000 people, making it the 3rd most dangerous state on our list.

In fact, it’s actually the most dangerous state in the Southern US, and the increased number comes from the violent crime rate of 1,359 per 100,000 residents in Memphis.

Not only is this the most increased crime rate for a location in Tennessee, but it’s the highest of any metropolitan area in our country. However, it’s been argued that Anchorage in Alaska is worse.

Even places like Signal Mountain, Church Hill, and Mount Carmel, considered the safest cities in Tennessee, can’t seem to drag those numbers any further down.

FBI statistics show that you have a 1 in 90 chance of being the victim of a violent crime in this city, a 1 in 240 chance of getting your car stolen, a 1 in 25 chance of property crime, and a 1 in 5,723 chance of homicide happening.
