Even though it’s one of the least populated states in the country, South Dakota is one of the most dangerous, according to reports. It has 501 violent crimes per 100,000 people.

There are only seven states that have higher violent crime rates, and the home of Mount Rushmore experienced a 25% increase in violent crimes recently. This is the second-highest growth of any state, driven by a massive 135% increase in homicide numbers.

The most common violent crime in South Dakota was aggravated assault, accounting for 80% of the total. Sioux Falls is the biggest city in South Dakota by population and has one of the worst crime rates in the state.

The city saw 555 aggravated assaults, five murders, and 121 rapes just last year. It also experienced 5,288 property crimes throughout the year…If you ask us, it sounds like folks should carry around some pepper spray when visiting this city!

The bottom line is that even though our country has many beautiful places to explore and move to, you should do your research to ensure you have a safe retirement. Living out your golden yours worry-free is what is most important.
