New Orleans, Louisiana

This is another city with one of the highest violent crime rates. Yet it might be considered more dangerous because it has the highest ratio of homicides per 100,000 people.

It is, however, worth noting that while the state has a population of fewer than 5 million people, it receives over 50 million visitors annually, on average. Louisiana’s violent crime rate rose by more than 16% in the past few years, more than double the national average increase.

Many people visiting the state tend to flock to New Orleans, which ranks as having 1,144 incidents of violent crimes per 100,000 people.

But considering more than 1 million people visit the city during the Fat Tuesday celebrations, for example, it’s surprising that New Orleans isn’t featured on the list of the ten most dangerous cities in the STATE all the time.

More dangerous cities include Opelousas, Hammond, and Alexandria.
