#7 Portland, Oregon

Chances are that Portland has already been on your retirement radar when it comes to places in which you could relocate after you stop being in the workforce, and this is for a really good reason. Not only is the city known to be popular with retirees, but a recent study made at the end of 2022 shows that the population of the city that is 65 or older is about 13.3% of the whole city’s population.

This means that you will be able to find like-minded people and communities to join if you are a retiree, not to mention that Oregon is an amazing state that you will be able to visit way easier if you are already in the area. The downtown area of this big city is perfect for walks, and you will be able to enjoy the city’s urban park, which is in the center, Pioneer Courthouse Square, and the Portland Art Museum, which is always among the top places you should visit here.

One disadvantage is that the state taxes pensions and completely prohibits deductions for income stemming from retirement accounts. Yet they make up for it by having no sales taxes. What’s more, the city is seen as pretty safe, and seniors are loving it here. And with a median rent of around $1,390, it would be perfect for a retiree couple!
