8. Estero, Florida

As a southern destination, Estero, Florida, gets all the things you may look for in your golden years: mild temperatures, sun, beach, and plenty of recreational activities. This Florida suburb is the second-largest on this list and is actually an island. It’s home to about 31,000 people and has so much to offer its residents.

From peaceful settings to a vibrant community, Estero has become a wonderful destination to build a family and settle down, as well as retire. When you consider that around 62% of its total households of 17,289 are collecting Social Security benefits, you can imagine it has a flourishing retiree community.
