7. Moreland Hills, Ohio

Moreland Hills is a residential suburb located about 14 miles east of Cleveland. The exurban town has a semi-rural vibe, retaining much of its pastoral character over the years. It’s home to many fascinating places, including the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, Forest Ridge, Look-About Lodge, and Hiram House Camp.

People live in houses located on two-acre lots throughout most of the suburb. Massive trees grace green lawns, partially obscuring lovely homes, both new and old. The word is just starting to get out in this charming place that it’s a great community for seniors. Almost 39% of its 1,450 total households are receiving Social Security benefits.

  1. In Michigan, the property tax rate is based on the selling price. So if the buyer paid $500,000, his property taxes would be around $7.000.00. Bloomfield Hills is beautiful, and its residents are wealthy. There is no downtown, so the residents go to Birmingham, Troy, or Southfield to shop. For us, if there is no downtown, it should not be called a town.
