Illinois: Decatur
Another entry on our list of the most affordable U.S. cities is Decatur. This Prairie State city and its surrounding areas are probably most famous for their manufacturing centers and agricultural hubs. However, Illinois is a great state for those of us who are looking to have a relaxed retirement.
Decatur is known as a student town; however, this small town does not only rely on the university for its residents. It does, however, help if you are a fan of college football and other sports, as you will be able to see games at the two universities in town.
