Decatur (cont.)

Owning a home in this town is easier than in other parts of the country, as the average goes up to around $111,000 and housing costs are a staggering 43% below the national average. Utilities, transportation, and healthcare also fall into a pretty affordable category, which is one of the reasons why people are attracted to this town when wanting to retire. The only thing you should be careful of is the fact that Illinois is not considered a tourist-friendly state, but depending on your situation, this is not going to be a problem.

The Prairie State is definitely a stop for nature lovers and a great fit for you if you are looking for an affordable place!

A lot of people end up loving to go mushroom picking when they move to Illinois due to the abundance of produce you can find in the wild. To help you on your journey to identify which mushrooms are edible and which are not, we recommend you take a look at this book if you are tempted by the idea!
