Use Community Banks

One aspect of financial activism that isn’t brought up as often is banking. That’s because most people turn to huge, national banks for all their needs. But if you think of capital as a tool for change, then this is an important step you should take if you want to see meaningful change in your community.

How? Simply put some or all of your deposits in a bank owned by diverse people that also serves diverse populations. For example, African-American families have had less access to financial products such as mortgages and loans. Your money could help provide more opportunities. This is a more indirect approach, but no less meaningful and helpful.

You could join others on the streets, hold up signs, and spread the word on social media, but voting with your dollars is a type of action that businesses will not turn a blind eye to! Use any, if not all, of these strategies and make your voice heard too!
