1. Erie, Pennsylvania: Lakeside Living and Tax-Free Retirement Income
Erie sits on the southern shore of Lake Erie and offers an exceptional blend of affordability and natural beauty. Local housing costs run roughly 45% below the national median.
You can readily find comfortable one-bedroom apartments renting between $750 and $885 per month. That single advantage preserves hundreds of dollars in your budget every month.
Pennsylvania treats retirees exceptionally well when tax season arrives. The state exempts Social Security benefits, 401(k) distributions, and traditional pensions from state income tax for residents aged 59½ and older.
Erie delivers a dramatic four-season experience. Warm summers invite you to Presque Isle State Park, while autumn brings stunning coastal foliage along the lakefront.
Winter brings substantial lake-effect snow, often topping 100 inches over the season. If you enjoy cozy snowy landscapes and lakeside summer breezes, Erie provides incredible value.
Where’s the states/ cities where seniors can retire safely without homelessness and robbery and get government assistance/benefits like in California?
Williams Arizona
Excellent advice
I’m interested in a safe State where there is no crime and there is deep respect for law and order ( respect for the police and ICE and Military personnel ).
North Korea
Williams Arizona, lots of us Retired LEOs here
I notice that all 7 places that you mentioned are in the mid-west or on the East Coast. Could you please give a similar assessment of the cheapest places for seniors to live in the west. There may not be any under $2,000.00 a month so you may have to move the bar up some what, but still give us the cheapest that you find. Thank you
Philippines is still the best place to retire
