2. Fort Wayne, Indiana: Heartland Community and Deep Affordability
Fort Wayne consistently ranks among the most budget friendly retirement towns in the Midwest. The city boasts a cost of living roughly 12% below the national average.
One-bedroom apartments average between $820 and $875 per month in safe, attractive neighborhoods. This rate fits neatly beneath the 45% housing expenditure ceiling.
Indiana fully exempts Social Security benefits from state income taxes. Furthermore, the state flat income tax rate continues to decrease annually toward a target of 2.9%.
The climate features four distinct, balanced seasons. You will experience warm July afternoons in the mid-80s, vibrant maple trees in October, and moderate winter snowfall averaging 32 inches.
The city has also invested heavily in senior accessibility. The Riverfront Fort Wayne development and the local trail network offer miles of level, scenic walking paths.
Where’s the states/ cities where seniors can retire safely without homelessness and robbery and get government assistance/benefits like in California?
Williams Arizona
Excellent advice
I’m interested in a safe State where there is no crime and there is deep respect for law and order ( respect for the police and ICE and Military personnel ).
North Korea
Williams Arizona, lots of us Retired LEOs here
I notice that all 7 places that you mentioned are in the mid-west or on the East Coast. Could you please give a similar assessment of the cheapest places for seniors to live in the west. There may not be any under $2,000.00 a month so you may have to move the bar up some what, but still give us the cheapest that you find. Thank you
Philippines is still the best place to retire
