7. Johnson City, Tennessee: Blue Ridge Living with Zero State Income Tax
Johnson City rests in northeastern Tennessee, surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains. The town offers a vibrant community atmosphere alongside living costs 9% below the national average.
Typical one-bedroom apartments range from $850 to $920 per month. Careful apartment hunters can consistently secure quality housing that leaves breathing room within a $2,000 monthly allotment.
Tennessee levies no state income tax on earned wages, pensions, retirement account withdrawals, or Social Security. This policy keeps every dollar of your retirement funds directly in your hands.
The elevation provides a true four-season cycle without harsh winter extremes. Winter snowfall averages just 11 inches, leaving mountain passes clear while offering picturesque dusting on the ridgelines.
Local healthcare systems, anchored by the Johnson City Medical Center, offer extensive specialized cardiac and orthopedic care tailored to older adults.

I notice that all 7 places that you mentioned are in the mid-west or on the East Coast. Could you please give a similar assessment of the cheapest places for seniors to live in the west. There may not be any under $2,000.00 a month so you may have to move the bar up some what, but still give us the cheapest that you find. Thank you
Philippines is still the best place to retire
