5. Peoria, Illinois: Riverfront Culture with Total Pension Exemptions
Peoria provides classic river city living in central Illinois at a remarkably low baseline cost. Housing costs sit roughly 20% below national levels.
One-bedroom rents in Peoria generally range between $800 and $880 per month. Quality rental units line quiet residential pockets as well as walkable historic districts.
Illinois offers one of the most generous retirement tax policies in the entire country. The state completely exempts Social Security, 401(k) withdrawals, and traditional pension payments from state income taxes.
The city experiences the full Midwestern weather spectrum. Expect warm summers near the Illinois River, colorful autumns, and winter snowfalls averaging around 25 inches.
The Peoria Riverfront Museum and extensive regional hospital networks like OSF Saint Francis provide high-level cultural and medical amenities right at your doorstep.

Williams Arizona, lots of us Retired LEOs here
I notice that all 7 places that you mentioned are in the mid-west or on the East Coast. Could you please give a similar assessment of the cheapest places for seniors to live in the west. There may not be any under $2,000.00 a month so you may have to move the bar up some what, but still give us the cheapest that you find. Thank you
Philippines is still the best place to retire
