Typical one-bedroom rental homes in Roanoke lease for $775 to $900 per month. These price points make it an ideal base to retire on $2000 a month.
Virginia exempts all Social Security benefits from state income taxation. Qualifying seniors aged 65 and older can also claim an additional state income deduction of up to $12,000.
Roanoke gives you all four seasons without the brutal northern freezes. Winters produce about 15 inches of snow, allowing you to enjoy scenic white peaks without protracted isolation.
Spring and autumn bring comfortable temperatures and world-renowned foliage along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Local farmers markets and walking trails make outdoor physical activity accessible year-round.

I notice that all 7 places that you mentioned are in the mid-west or on the East Coast. Could you please give a similar assessment of the cheapest places for seniors to live in the west. There may not be any under $2,000.00 a month so you may have to move the bar up some what, but still give us the cheapest that you find. Thank you
Philippines is still the best place to retire
