The Math Behind Retiring on $2,000 a Month
Securing a comfortable lifestyle on $2,000 a month requires disciplined cost control; your housing expense makes or breaks this plan. Financial planners recommend keeping your shelter costs under 45% of your total budget.
That means you should target rent and insurance costs at or below $900 per month. Limiting your housing cost leaves you with $1,100 to cover healthcare, food, transportation, and seasonal utilities.
The national median rent for an apartment sits around $1,500 per month. Finding cheap retirement cities where standard one-bedroom apartments rent for under $900 is the secret to thriving on a modest pension.
Healthcare also demands dedicated room in your monthly balance sheet. You must plan for your Medicare Part B premium, which is deducted directly from your Social Security check each month.
Review the baseline monthly spending plan below to see how a $2,000 budget breaks down for an individual retiree.
| Budget Category | Monthly Allocation | Percentage of Budget |

| Groceries & Household Goods | $320 | 16.0% |
| Utilities (Electric, Gas, Water, Trash) | $195 | 9.75% |
| Transportation (Fuel, Insurance, Local Bus) | $170 | 8.5% |
| Recreation & Emergency Buffer | $180 | 9.0% |
| Total Monthly Budget | $2,000 | 100.0% |

Excellent advice
I’m interested in a safe State where there is no crime and there is deep respect for law and order ( respect for the police and ICE and Military personnel ).
North Korea
Williams Arizona, lots of us Retired LEOs here
I notice that all 7 places that you mentioned are in the mid-west or on the East Coast. Could you please give a similar assessment of the cheapest places for seniors to live in the west. There may not be any under $2,000.00 a month so you may have to move the bar up some what, but still give us the cheapest that you find. Thank you
Philippines is still the best place to retire
