Pitfalls to Watch For When Relocating on a Fixed Income
Relocating during retirement involves real financial and emotional trade-offs. Overlooking hidden costs can strain your monthly finances before you fully unpack.
Failing to visit during the peak of winter is a frequent mistake. If you move from the South to Erie or Akron without experiencing freezing weather, the cold may shock you.
Another hazard involves ignoring county-level fees and personal property taxes. Even in states with no general income tax, local jurisdictions may assess taxes on automobiles each year.
Do not move into an isolated rental without confirming nearby healthcare access. Ensure that primary care doctors and clinics accept your insurance plan before signing a lease agreement.
Finally, avoid skipping renters insurance to shave a few dollars from your budget. A basic renters policy costs roughly $15 monthly and protects your personal belongings against fires and seasonal storms.
Where’s the states/ cities where seniors can retire safely without homelessness and robbery and get government assistance/benefits like in California?
Williams Arizona
Excellent advice
I’m interested in a safe State where there is no crime and there is deep respect for law and order ( respect for the police and ICE and Military personnel ).
North Korea
Williams Arizona, lots of us Retired LEOs here
I notice that all 7 places that you mentioned are in the mid-west or on the East Coast. Could you please give a similar assessment of the cheapest places for seniors to live in the west. There may not be any under $2,000.00 a month so you may have to move the bar up some what, but still give us the cheapest that you find. Thank you
Philippines is still the best place to retire
