If you’re a fan of small-town vibes, history, majestic vistas, hunting, fishing, and water activities, then South Dakota may be exactly what you’re looking for. This Midwestern state provides its residents with all of the above, plus no state income tax and a low cost of living.
With four different regions to choose from, it’s quite easy to find your perfect place for retirement in South Dakota. For the history buff, we truly recommend the West Region, where you can find Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and Black Hills National Forest.
Water lovers should choose the Central Region, where they can live their retirement years to the fullest on the Missouri River. I hope nobody comes to Oregon based on the information in this article. Contrary to what is stated, Oregon’s legislators seem to spend a lot of time thinking up new things to tax. There’s even an “art tax” on income in the Portland metro area, to support Portland “art”.
