They Never Congratulate Successful Moves, but They Sure Like Assigning Blame

If your higher up puts you down in front of others but doesn’t work on congratulating you for your achievements in the same manner, then you have to start making steps to correct this. Sure, it might feel awkward at first, but remember that you have to look after yourself in the working environment.
Approach them in their office or at least make sure to bring the issue up in a private space. Apologize for their outburst. Apologize for relying on their leadership too much. That way you’ll still be polite, but they should get the message that what they’ve just done is not acceptable.
Furthermore, as you’ve spoken to them in private, this will help solidify your relationship and what you expect from them. Make sure to ask them to speak to you in your office or theirs if any other problems arise.
